Cuenta Doble · Story for students

The classics belong to everyone.

If you're a student, Story is free. And every paid subscription gifts another to a student in a rural or low-income school in Mexico.

Elementary, middle, high school, college or grad school. If you study, you count.

Cuenta Doble

Why Cuenta Doble? In Spanish, cuenta means both “account” and “it counts.” Every paid account on Story counts for two: yours, and one for a student who couldn't afford it.

For centuries, great books were out of reach for many people: in libraries hours away, in expensive editions, behind the idea that they were meant for a few.

But Marcus Aurelius wrote his Meditations for himself, not for an elite. Cervantes wrote so anyone could laugh. The ideas that help us live better were never supposed to come with a price tag.

Story exists to remove those barriers: the price, the distance, the fear of not understanding. So a student in the Mixteca highlands and one in Mexico City's Polanco hear the same Quixote, unabridged, on the same day.

What we believe

Four ideas we don't compromise on.

01

The classics aren't for the elite.

They were written for anyone who wanted to think more clearly. Our job is to remove the barriers.

02

Learning should feel good.

Not like homework, but like the story you can't put down. That's why we narrate for the ear: on the bus, at recess, before bed.

03

A zip code doesn't decide who reads.

A student in a rural community deserves the same Quixote as a student in the city. Unabridged, not a second-rate version.

04

Clear accounts.

We'll publish how many subscriptions we gift and how many schools they reach. If we promise it, we measure it.

Universities across Latin America

We want to reach every classroom.

We're inviting these universities to bring Story, free, to their students. If you study at one of them, or anywhere else, your access already counts.

Student access

Save your spot.

The iPhone app is planned for January 2027. Leave your email, ideally your school one, and we'll let you know as soon as student access opens.

What people ask us.

Who counts as a student?

Anyone enrolled in a school: elementary, middle, high school, college or grad school. Public or private, in person or online.

My school doesn't give me an email.

No problem. Sign up with your personal email and show us a current student ID or enrollment letter.

Is it really the whole catalog?

Yes. It's everything Story-Pro includes. There's no student version with fewer titles.

How long is it free?

For as long as you're studying. We'll ask you to confirm once a school year.

Do I need an iPhone?

No. The iPhone app is planned for January 2027, and you can also listen in the browser of any phone or computer.

How do you choose the schools that receive subscriptions?

We're starting in Mexico, with rural and low-income schools. We choose them together with their teachers and principals. If you know a school that should receive them, nominate it.

What do you do with my data?

We use your email or student ID only to confirm you're a student. We show no ads and don't sell your data.
